IP-address Connection
Anyplace Control connection mode
Distant Connection on LAN or over the Internet
'IP-address Connection' mode enables you to connect to a remote computer using its IP address or DNS name, and as such makes connection possible on both your LAN and over the Internet.
Note: For a successful connection, the Host computer must have a static external IP address, and proper firewall or router configurations (read more below).
How it Works
Anyplace Control must be installed on two different computers. The Admin module is installed on the PC that would be used to control a remote PC where the Host module is installed. You will then need to add either the IP address or the DNS name of the Host PC into the Address Book inside the Admin module. If both computers are located on the same LAN this step can be bypassed - the computer can simply be selected from the 'Network Places' list in the Admin module.
Possible Problems and Solutions
Here are a few alternative problem-sources to consider if necessary:
Dynamic IP addresses
Depending on your Internet provider, your computer might be issued with a permanently changing IP address. This type of address is called 'dynamic', and is the most common type of address issued. If you want to connect to remote computer but don't know its current IP address, it will be difficult to establish a direct connection. A solution to this problem can be found here...Internal IP addresses
It's very common for the computer that you want to remotely connect to to be located behind a router in a corporate or home LAN. As a rule, computers situated on LANs only get an internal IP address such as 192.168.x.x, which is valid on that LAN only. This means that you won't be able to connect to this computer over the Internet, and must instead configure the router directly. To see how to do this, click here...Problems with Firewall Activity
Firewalls can restrict both external and internal connections from ports 5279 and 4279, so you'll need to open these manually. Information on how to do this can be found here...Connection via Proxy Server
If you connect to the Internet via a proxy server, Anyplace Control will have difficulties establishing a connection. This can be solved by following the instructions outlined here...All Problems Already Solved!
