Screen viewing issues (blank screen)

Postby Videomaster » 18 Mar 2010, 18:29

There are a couple bugs in the software that are causing me to think twice about using this solution. I experience some problems with getting a blank screen when remoting into a client machine.

Would you be so kind to send us a detailed list of bugs or issues you have faced with for us either to fix them and provide you with the new solution or to provide you with the instruction how to sort out the issues. It would be rather helpful, if you attach screenshots of issues.

Note: you can take a screenshot in the following way: press PRT SCR key->Open the MS Paint->Paste the data into MS Paint window->Save as .jpg->Send the saved file to us.

Concerning blank screen:

You can see blank screen in several situations:

1.When remote PC enters into the full screen text mode:
Anyplace Control cannot work with full screen text modes. However you can press Alt+Enter combination to switch the remote computer into the windowed text mode.

2.When Host Module runs as simple application (not system service) and remote user presses Ctrl+Alt+Del:
Please turn on "system service" mode for Host Module to solve the problem.
You can do it via Host Module's settings (see Start tab).

3.When remote user uses Windows XP feature "fast user switch":
To prevent the problem please use "Log off user" and "Log on user" Windows commands instead of "Fast user switch" if you want to change the user.

4.If someone uses Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection tool (integrated with Windows) to connect to a Host PC, Anyplace Control cannot interact with the remote screen until the PC is rebooted. Please don't use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection tool to prevent the problem. Moreover, there's no need to use Remote Desktop connection when Anyplace Control connection is available, since Anyplace Control offers functionality similar to Remote Desktop plus a lot of additional features.

5. If under XP Proff. SP2 "Control Panel->Power Options->System standby" feature is ON.
Please, disable this feature.

Sorry to highjack an old post but I'm having a similar issue, and I think its related to #4 the use of remote desktop. Is there no other workaround than a system reboot? Is there some application or service that could be killed?

If there is no user at a remote PC - there is no other way to get rid of opened Microsoft RDC window than just to reboot a PC.
You can't end the process in Task Manager as you won't see the Task Manager's window because of blank screen.

After some further investigation, this is not the problem I am seeing. One my windows 7 machines I have apc set to run as a service, however, windows 7 starts all services in session 0 (no desktop interaction). If I you the local system account and check all desktop interaction, apc tells me I do not have a password configured. If I set the APC service to login as me its stuck in session 0. I tried adding apc to the group policy, startup script but I still get the access password on the remote host has not been set.

5.0.4.2, only happens on windows 7, though I have not tested Vista and that most likely has the same problem, XP SP3 works fine. As mentioned I've tracked this to the fact that win 7 runs services in session 0, so no desktop is available.

We know about Session 0 on Windows 7. Anyplace Control works with it and transmit remote screen.
Please, contact our support group - support@anyplace-control.com and provide us with the screenshot of the error you have got. You won't be able to attach screenshots here and without them we won't be able to provide you with any certain instruction.

There is no error message to send, everything looks like its working correctly but when the remote screen comes up its all white. If I stop the service and restart it as an application everything works fine. I wrote some software that runs as a service but starts the apc_host.exe as a user running a desktop/session. Initial testing seems promising, but I would much prefer a built-in solution.
