sound in remote desktops

I'm not a technical specialists so I need your help.
Does anyone knows why my microphone doesn't work in remote desktops? I currently work at home and have access to my office desktop over RDP connection. But any time I need to chat in Skype my opponents can not hear what I'm saying. Why is that so?
