In addition to file transfers, am I able to actually run any software which is installed on the host computer? I am using the host to run a digital sign, which has it's own software running. Will I be able to open the software from the client side and change perimters and settings in the sign software? Or is functionality limited to just transfering files.

Anyplace Control is remote desktop control software.
Having Host module installed on a remote PC you may get a full access to that computer, to data stored there and you will also be able to perform any action on that PC remotely as easy as if you were sitting right in front of your remote machine.
